Frequently Asked Questions for Those Who Want to Join the Group
Can I join the group?
As the group has been, in essence, constantly growing for the past few years, we cannot promise anyone a part on stage. However, if you are willing to do backstage work, especially in the field of costume making, we will be very happy to welcome you. In the winter semester 2009/2010 there might be a few openings for talented young men, due to the temporary absence of some of the current members. All casting decisions are made by the directors in the end, so if you want to join, just write an e-mail to our directors.
Generally speaking, directing jobs are not available.
Who are the directors?
For many years now, Elke and Christoph Nonn have been our trusted and beloved directors. They have led the Drama Group to where we are now and they still invest heart and soul in this hobby despite having their own full time jobs and two adorable children to deal with.
When is a good time to join the group?
The best time to join the Drama Group is at the end of any given semester. Text readings and casting usually take place in the first half of the semester break. Rehearsals begin a few weeks before the semester begins. Of course we can always use your help, even if casting is already done. Join us, help with the development of the play and maybe take a role yourself in the semester after.
How often do you rehearse?
Rehearsals take place twice a week, Thursday and Sunday evenings. Of course, not every actor has to be in every rehearsal. The size of one's role indicates the amount of time one has to invest. When performances draw nearer, time admittedly becomes pretty rare.
Since SS08, we also included a weekend to spend together in a hostel near Trier to play, rehearse, be generally goofy and have a lot of fun. We will try to include a rehearsal weekend in every semester's rehearsal schedule.
What do your rehearsals look like?
Rehearsals are mostly a lot of fun. Since we are an amateur group, fun is a huge part of what we're doing. We are a fun group with fun people having lots of fun and trying to make this fun visible for the audience on stage. Of course we still want to produce something good and at times this means hard work. But it pays off!
To be more concrete: We meet up at 8 p.m., do some warm-up exercises, go over the lines for the scene that is to be rehearsed, and then we begin staging the scene, starting with what the actors might have thought up. The director will then refine what he or she sees with his or her own ideas. From then on, it's trial, error, correction and repetition until around 11 p.m.
How long do you work on one production?
We put on one play per semester and have done so for a number of years. And yes, that's quite a lot.
Where do you perform?
Since the winter semester 2007/2008, we have been fortunate enough to perform on a real stage in a real theater regulary. The TuFa Trier has been our home for rehearsals and performances ever since and we enjoy this connection very much.
I want to contact you - should I write in English or German?
Take your pick. There is no one in the drama group not perfectly capable of understanding English and German. Anything you might want to tell us or ask us can be in either English or German.
